Pre class assignment
This is one of my proudest design that i have ever. I was assigned this project when i was on foundation. The task to create a wearable object that is not fashionable, but also needs to show one of the three emotions, which is anger, sorrow or love. From a design stand point, i choose to design a half faced mask conveyed by the emotion sorrow. All the materials used on this masked have meanings to them, the outer layer of the mask are covered with sand, to show the harshness of what the person have been through, ropes choking around the neck, black clay shaped like a river of tears, to illustrate the pain and suffering. And nails piercing the skull to point out the constant pain that are always present.
This is the Marina Bay Sands, located in Singapore. It is amazing is many ways, from a architect point of view it is elegant, simple and bright. The building is actually curved, starting from a large base area and ends with a narrower top. But from an engineer point of view, it is an masterpiece of engineering. A large platform, similar to a boat is on top of the three buildings, which is nearly impossible to be executed, well for me at least.
In my opinion, this is really beautiful. I am not talking only about the statue, I am also talking about the object behind it. Behind it is a man made forest eight levels high. If you think about it, there are hundreds of plants there, and each plants has their own preferable environment, but here all plants are kept in one environment. The forest are held indoor, so temperature and humidity must be monitored constantly so that the plants can live a long life. For me this is just amazing.
